community over comparison //

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing. // 1 Thessalonians 5:11

We live in a competition driven world. Comparison has become the norm. We’ve created a society where it’s so much easier to look at others & ourselves by worldly standards. It’s gotta stop.

I fall victim to this all. the. time. It’s so easy to scroll through instagram & get down on myself because the pictures I post aren’t as good as someone else’s. I can read through my twitter feed & be disappointed that I’m not as funny as other people. I get jealous of other people’s online profiles. You guys, it’s so unhealthy.

Caught up in the world, I lose sight of what’s important.

It’s nearly impossible to be content when you’re constantly competing and comparing with others. God created each of us to be beautiful & unique & we won’t be content until we live into that. Beauty & success & value doesn’t have to be either or. In fact, it’s not!! There are so many beautiful people and hearts and souls in this world. Because you see it in someone else does not equal the absence of it in you. Spending our energy trying to be more like someone else is like telling God “I don’t like what you made here. It’s not good enough.”

That could not be more wrong.

You are beautiful. You are valuable. You are worthy.

Once we start to realize this & live into it, a lot changes. We can start to see the real, genuine beauty in others without doubting it in ourselves. We can learn to be content, but not satisfied because we’ll discover a new longing to deeply know the Creator of so much beauty.

COUNT ME IN.

Now, I don’t want you to hear me saying social media is bad. Don’t get me wrong, I love it! But it’s about dang time we use it to be radically celebrating others as the Word calls us to rather than bringing ourselves down because of someone else’s successes.

So, here’s to community!! May we build each other up & rejoice in the success & beauty of others, while still seeing & valuing our own.
